High-Volume Data, too many requests to the data dept
The inability to process and analyze massive volumes of streaming data from thermostats meant that half of the data’s potential business value was being wasted. This resulted in Overwhelming Data Streams, an Underutilized Data Asset, and a Lack of advanced MLOps infrastructure to derive new insights from data.
From inaccessible to cross-department availability
A cloud-native Big Data and AI platform was implemented to ingest, store, and analyze thermostat data in real-time, creating new value for the business and end-users. This included a Big Data & Streaming Platform, Automated AI Analytics for User Behavior, and New User Notifications & Services.
We were collecting massive amounts of data from our thermostats, but it was just sitting there for basic monitoring. We knew there was immense value locked inside—insights into user behavior, potential energy savings, and product improvements.
Solution Features
The cloud-native platform provides:
- Real-time ingestion and storage of streaming thermostat data
- Big Data & Streaming Platform backbone
- Automated AI Analytics for user behavior analysis
- Engine for generating New User Notifications & Services
- Architecture for cross-departmental data access
Strategic Benefits
The implementation unlocked new strategic opportunities:
- Monetization of previously underutilized data assets
- Digital transformation of a physical product into a service offering
- Enhanced perceived value leading to higher customer loyalty
- Reduced reliance on the central data department for basic requests
- Improved decision-making based on real-time user behavior insights
Technical Architecture
The solution uses a modern cloud-native architecture:
